In this paper a theoretical analysis is made on the thrust load carrying capacity of a thrust bearing which consists of a plane surface on a fixed pad and a flat sliding surface on a rotating body simply supported at an end of a driving shaft. The characteristics of the bearing are considered under the condition that the sliding surface is tilting to the fixed surface. This analytical method can be used to investigate the condition of clearance between a valve plate and a cylinder block of an axial piston pump. The condition of static balance of this bearing is expressed with a set of parameters which become constant by setting the supply pressure and the external force acting on the rotating body. Furthermore this paper reports about vibration phenomena of this bearing.
