The effects of radiant heat flux and capillary force related to particle size on rapid drying of a horizontal wetted porous layer under intensive high heat flux are studied both analytically and experimentally. The present analytical model is assumed to be available for the entire drying period. It is clarified that the predicted results are in good agreement with the experimental ones qualitatively. Moreover the significant roles of heat flux and capillary force on drying are discussed together with the effects of the other transfer coefficients including heat transfer coefficient, vapor and liquid diffusivity on drying process.
