In this study, we report the laser ablation of Ni target in 10 Torr of N_2 gas and water environments to examine the influence of environment by use of Ti : sapphire laser (wavelength 800nm, pulse width 130fs). In the experimental results, ablation depth of the targets in water is deeper than that in 10-Torr gas in the lower fluence than 20 J/(cm)^2,while it is opposite in the larger fluence. The ablation processes in two different environments are analyzed by simulation using CIP (Constrained Interpolation Profile) method and the experimentally observed difference of ablation depth between in 10-Torr gas and water is elucidated. Simulation results indicate that thermal diffusions are different in two cases of environments and then the difference is reflected in the ablation depth.
