一次元磁性体の量子効果

磁性を担う原子が直線状に並んだ一次元磁性体は古くから理論的研究の対象として調べられてきた.古典的スピン(スピン量子数S→∞)をもつ反強磁性体の場合は,Neel状態から出発するスピン波理論で磁気的性質が記述されるが,Sが小さくなると量子効果が著しくなり,この記述が正しくないことは以前より指摘されていた.最近,一次元反強磁性体においてスピン量子数に依存した効果が提唱され多くの研究者の興味を引いている.ここでは,S=1/2,1,3/2,5/2を持つ擬一次元反強磁性体において主として中性子非弾性散乱測定により求められた磁気励起の結果を紹介し,この分野における量子効果についての理解の発展と現状について解説する.
