A New Size Effect for Granular Films with Random Inter-Grain Energy Barriers

An exponential thickness dependence of the conductivity along a thin granularceramic or polycrystalline film is predicted. This size effect results from the randomfluctuation of inter-grain barrier heights and is shown to hold for film thicknessesmuch greater than the characteristic grain size.
