Correlation of Superconductivity with the Infrared Anomaly in (La_1-xM_x)_2(Cu_1-yN_y) O_4(M=Ca,Sr and Ba; N=Ni and Zn)

• For La.Cu0. based high-I. superconducting oxide systems, three infrared absorp-lion peaks by phonons, which were labeled as P., P. and P. from the higher energyside, were observed in the energy region between 250 and 800 crn '. The intensity ofthe peak P. changed sensitively depending on the concentration of substituted ions.We call the fact the infrared anomaly. Superconductivity appears for samples forwhich the intensity ratio 7(P.)/Z(P.) is nearly zero. This correlation between the in-frared anomaly and supeconductivity has been confirmed to be common not only for(La. .M.).Cu0. (M=Ca, Sr and Ba) but also for (La. .Sr.).(Cu. ,N,)O. (N=Niand Zn). From mode assignments, the anomalous peak P. is inferred to correspond tostretching motions of Cu-0 bonds along the bond direction perpendicular to the c-axis.linfrared absorption, high-7'. oxide superconductor, (La. .M.).CuO., lattice ]l vibrationt
