We studied self-trapping of a Frenkel exciton in a binary mixed crystal A.B. ... withrandomness in the exciton atomic (e,) and the transfer (7,) energies, and the shortrange exciton-lattice interaction D,. The concentration dependence of the energies ofrelaxed excitons and the emission energies are calculated for self-trapped (S,) states ati=A or B site and free (F) states using the coherent potential approximation. Extrinsic self-trapping and the F-S transition are discussed with phase diagrams obtainedfor various parameters A = c. - z., D, the exciton band width T,( i = A, B) and theconcentration x. The results are compared with recent experiments on mixed ioniccrystals and II-Vl compound semiconductors.[mixed crystal, random system, electron-lattice interaction, self-trapping, ll localizationl
