A system comprised of the nonlinear Schr6dinger equation coupled to theBoussinesq equation is proposed. This system reduces to the nonlinear Schr6dingerequation, the Zakharov equations, or the equations studied by Nishikawa et al., (aswell as Yajima and Satsuma), for an appropriate choice of parameters.
