Composite this films consisting of one or two Permalloy layers and a non-magnetic layer such as Ag, Al, Au, Cr, Pb, and Pd layer are studied. An anomalous ferromagnetic resonance, a large rotational hysteresis, and a large coercive force are observed on the Permalloy layer deposited onto Ag, Al, Au, or Pb layer prepared at substrate temperatures above 200℃. Observations on the film structures by electron microscopy reveal that the non-magnetic films have rough surfaces and consist of islands surrounded by large and deep grooves even at a thickness of 1000Å when the substrate temperature is high. The anomalous behavior of the films can be attributed to the film structure. Experiments on spin wave resonance show that no magnetic couplings exist between a ferromagnetic layer and a non-magnetic layer or between ferromagnetic layers.
