Thermodynamic Properties of the Square Lattice XXZ Model : A Schwinger Boson Mean-Field Theory

We investigate the effects of the AY-like anisotropy on thermodynamic quantities of the two-dimensional XXZ model on the square lattice using a Schwinger boson mean-field approach.Our formulation leads to correct relations of the spin correlation functions; /,57 87 ) :: (S': S!j ) f(S7Sj). The internal energy, specific heat, spin correlation functions, uniform susceptibilitiesand correlation length are obtained after we correct the transverse spin correlation function byan extra factor 172. At zero temperature our results agree with those of the conventional spunwave theory and those of numerical studies. At low temperatures tlnermal quantutues, except forthe transverse susceptibility for the ferromagnetic XXZ model and the correlation length, agreewith those of numerical studies. In particular, we find that the transverse uniform susceptibilityof the antiferromagnetic X X Z model behaves as a -f- bT' at low temperatures in contrast to the'V'-linear behavior of the isotropic Heisenberg amtiferromagnet.
