The persistence length of wormlike polyelectrolyte chains in the salt-free semidilutesolution is calculated by the same theoretical model as the previous calculations ofsmall-angle scattering of the solution. It is assumed that because of the strong elec-trostatic repulsion between the polymer segments, two monomers in differentsegments can not be close to each others within a distance 7?.. The persistence length abecomes'=""'Cf/C' /))""m"' (") (/'9')?where f is a constant smaller than but close to unity, and C- is the monomer concen-tration expressed in mol/l. This value for /=0.8-0.9 agrees with the values obtainedby a recent small-angle neutron scattering experiment. The concentration dependenceof the scattering curve calculated with this value agrees qualitatively with those ofsmall-angle neutron and X-ray scattering experiments.[polyelectrolyte, polymer solution, semidilute solution, wormlike chain, per- ll sistence length, small-angle scattering[
