A direct proof of the ,V-soliton solution of the Benjamin-Ono (BO) equation ispresented within the framework of the theory of determinants. It is shown that thebilinear equation for the BO ,V-soliton solution is reduced to Jacobi's formula andhence it has a very simple structure. At the same time, various novel formulas fordeterminants are derived as a by-product of the present theory.
