The Magnetic Susceptibility and Its Temperature Dependence of Liquid Hg-TI and Hg-Cs Alloys

The molar magnetic susceptibility )(,. of liquid Hg-11 and Hg-Cs alloys wasmeasured from room temperature to 748 K using the Fraday method. The observedz. of liquid Hg-11 alloys shows positive deviations from the linear concentrationdependence. For liquid Hg-Cs alloys a positively enhanced tendency of 7. is foundaround 40 at.%Cs, though deviations from the linear law remain to be negative as awhole ("W shape"). Such a concentration dependence of z.. is discussed in terms ofthe nearly free electron model. Positive deviations or positively enhanced tendencies("W shape") of z. in these liquid Fig alloys seem to be explained by taking into ac-count electron-ion interactions. The temperature coefficient of 7., or dz./c1T, isdiscussed from the point of view of higher order ton-ion correlation effects recentlyfound for some liquid mercury alloys.'-"
