Signals due to the change of diamagnetic pressure of the plasma have beenmeasured to demonstrate the plasma heating by the axisymmetric fast (compress-ional) wave which is launched toward a region of increasing magnetic field. As ex-pected from our previous experiment concerning the conversion of the fast wave intothe ion cyclotron wave in a cylindrical plasma, a remarkable increment of thediamagnetism has been observed for the first time near the ion cyclotron resonancearea.
