Photodesorption from oxygen pre-adsorbed Mg0 surfaces was studied in thetemperature range of 300-473 K by mass spectrometry as compared with thermallystimulated desorption. The 0. photodesorption occurs by the ultraviolet excitationwith the threshold energy of about 4.1 eV. The photodesorption rate decays as t 'with n of about 0.6, and n is little dependent on sample temperatures. Thephotodesorption yield decreases near 370 K with increasing temperature and thisresult is attributed to the thermal decay of surface electron traps. The mechanism ofphotodesorption is discussed.
