The vibrational energy levels and wave functions of deoxyheme are obtainedby the perturbation method based on the double minimum potential due to thepseudo-Jahn-Teller distortion of out-of-plane A.. speci<ps. These vibrationalenergy levels are almost doubly degenerate. Among the infrared-active modes, thefrequencies of the pseudo-Jahn-Teller active three modes 212. and E. are ex-pected to be smaller than those calculated by Warshel and LappicireJ1a. Theasymmetric position of ./V, in the imidazole produces the asymmetric and rhombicfield around the iron. The adjustment of the adiabatic potentials of Loew andKirchner to those including the pseudo-Jahn-Teller interaction gives somewhatunreasonable values of the potential depths and frequencies.
