Crystal structures of Ca.Sr(C.H.C0.). at sixteen temperatures between-l60'C and ]50'C have been determined accurately, using an X-ray fourcircle diffractometer. The occupancies of the three disordered methyl groups in aformula unit, together with the displacements of Sr, Ca and 0 atoms, vary withtemperature in the same manner as the spontaneous polarization which takes asaturated value at - I60'C. In contrast to this, one of the other methyl groupsis in a state of partial disorder even at - 160'C. The major part of the spontaneouspolarization is explainable by displacements of Ca-0., octahedra relative to Srton. Using the result of the thermal expansion along the c-axis measured by theBond method, it was found that the spontaneous strain was compatible with theequivalent two sublattice model on the basis of the determined crystal structures.
