c-c-o-For methyl acetate with a planar structure II 111 the molecule,a spin-lattice relaxation time (7'.) arnd a specific volume were measured in the liquidphase. Methyl acetate has a liquid-liquid phase transition at -I2'C at atmo-spheric pressure. The liquid phase is divided into two parts ?tamed as L. and L.corresponding as high and Ioxv temperature liquid phase, respectively. An ana-lysis of 7'.-temperature relation resulted in that there are two kinds of mode ofthe molecular motion. The phase transition corresponds to the change in themolecular motion and the mode whose correlation time is shorter than the otherappears in each liquid phase. The L. state is a mesomorphic state due to a planarc-c-o-strttcture of II group.A pressure dependence of the transition temperaturewas obtained from T. measurement at high pressure. The value of c3.P/dT at150 MPa is about 5 x 10' Pa/deg.
