Relative emission yields of Balmer lines as functions of the dwell time (t.0.97-12.3 fs) in thin carbon foils arc measured with beams of H", Hf, and Hfimpinging on thin carbon foils at 0.5 and 0.8 MeV/amu. Large molecular enhance-ments of emission yields of Balmer lines are observed for N7 and Hf beams, where (i) the molecular enhancements for H.' and Iff depend on the principalquantum number (n=3-6), (it) the molecular enhancement for Hf is higher thanthat for H.f, and (iii) the molecular enhancements decrease very rapidly in thered regiem (t.<,2 fs) and slowly in the blue regiem (/.>2 fs) with increasing t..
