• An alternative rerresentation of the inverse scatterins transformation has beenfound accidentally for the Korteweg-de Vries equation. Transformation of theeigenfunction reduces this new representation to the original scheme discoveredby Gardner, Greene, Kruskal and Miura. A similar analysis for the modifiedKorteweg-de Vries equation leads to a new representation of the inverse scatteringtransformation.
