The velocity field of the Taylor-Couette flow is expanded in terms of a corn-plete set of solentoidal vector fuctions to analyse the nonlinear stability by the useof the Galerkin method. In nutrterical calculation, the 24 modes of this expansionare retained. It is found that the bifurcations of the steady solution occur for someReynolds number range and a hysteresis phenomenon in agreement with experi-mental findings is observed.
