Stability of the kinetic drift-tearing mode with a short wave length is investigatedemploying am energy-dependent electron-ion collision model. The electron fern-perature gradient can destabilize the mode in the range of the collisionality1< v/co.'52O (v : collision frequency, a.: drift frequency). This instability appearsin a parameter range of interrnediate /?-values, and the mode is stabilized by themagnetic shear when /?-value becomes 0(1 '/.) (/? : plasma pressure/magneticpressure).
