X-Ray Study on the Structure of Graphite Intercalated Compound C_<24>Rb at 150K

The ordered structure of 2nd stage alkali metal graphite intercalated compoundC..Rb has been investigated with X-ray diffraction.. Below 165 K, we observedsatellite reflections around each fundamental Bragg reflections due to configu-rational ordering of Rb" tons. In addition, we also found weak sub-satellitereflections. These sub-satellites, as well as the main satellites, are indexed assuperlattice reflections when we assign a large (9 x 9) unit cell. Based on the(9 x 9) unit cell and on the assumption of registered configuration of Rb" ions,we could construct a plausible model structure of C..Rb at 150 K. The observedcharacteristics of the experimeuats are qualitatively reproduced by the presentmodel.
