The periodic perturbation is imposed on the Belousov-Zhabotinsky reactionby means of periodically repeated stirring of the reacting mixture. Since the flowof the mixture caused by the stirring includes oxygen gas from the surface, thereaction is modulated by a periodic stirring and an entrained or a nonperiodicoscillation is observed depending on the repetition rate of the stirring. The sampledata amplitudes of nonperiodic oscillations are analysed by using the Lorenzplot, and well-defined single-valued transter functions are obtained which givepositive Liapounov numbers and have period three points. We conclude thusthat the system exhibits chaotic behavior.
