Superposition Model Analysis of the Spin-Hamiltonian Parameters for Fe^<3+> Ions in Trigonal Symmetry Sites of KMgF_3 and KZnF_3 Single Crystals

A calculation of the trigonal spin=-Hamiltonian parameters for Fe" in KZnF.was?-performed using Newman's sujverposition model and the knowledge of tFtelocal arrangement of the fluorine coordinated ligands surrounding the iron iota.It was found that both the sign and the magnitude of the calculated 7parametersare in good agreement with those previously determined experimentally. Also, a.nElectron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) investigation of Fe" in fc>ur inequi-valent axial sites (trigonal) of KMg'F. was carried out and the spin-Hamiltonianparameters describing the site symrrtetry were determined for the first time. Fromthis information, an analysis was unade, using the superposition model, of tltelocal arrangement around the impurity Fe" ion responsible for the observedtrigonal EPR spectra.
