The temperature dependence of the cubic spin Hamiltonian parameter a forthe 'S.7. ground state ions Mn" and Fe" has been measured in magnesiumoxide in the temperature range 94-600 K. Frorn these data the relationshipbetween a and the cubic potential was found. Som<c disagreennent is noted betweenour results and those obtained previously by other workers.
