The two-dimensional classical sine-Gordon system which contains a misfitparameter jt in one direction is investigated at a paxrticular temperature. Tltismodel at that temperature is transformed into a one-dimensional free spinalessFermi system. The commensurate phase is stable wlnen p is smaller than thecritical value /Z,. The fluctuating incommensurate state j:s realized when p >jt.. Tlcemean misfit near the critical value p. behaves as (/Z -p..)"/".The Fourier transform of the correlation function is also calculated. In theincommensurate phase it has a delta-function and a logarithmically divergentterm in addition to a broad peak. Its behavior can be uunderstood in terms of tlaefluctuating discommensurations. -
