Resonance Raman (RR) Spectra of rhodopsin and isorhodopsin are theoreti-cally analyzed and compared with those of free protonated retinylidene Schiffbases (PRSB). We used the multibond twisted chromophore conformations ofrhodopsin and isorhodopsin which were previously obtained through the opticalspectral analysis. The calculated frequencies and relative intensities of RR spectraof rhodopsin and isorhodopsin are almost similar to those for the correspondingfree PRSB's. Furthermore the correlation between the frequencies v's of normalmodes and the maximum wavelength of the absorption 2 is analyzed for thefollowing three cases; a) torsion around a double bond, b) a counter-anion nearN atom and c) an anion near C5 atom. As a result, the experimental fact thatv's of C=C stretchings decrease considerably as .2 increases and those of C -Cstretchings increase is best reproduced in case a). The frequency of C=N"Hstretching shows drastic decrease in case b), but moderate decrease in cases a) andc) with increase of 2.
