Electrical Properties of Phthalocyanine-Halogen Complexes

Electrical conductivities and thermoelectric power of the complexes of phthalo-cyanine with halogen (iodine or bromine) have been studied. The electricalconductivity of phthalocyanines exposed to halogen vapor increases drasticallyup to 10 to 1 1 orders of magnitude, and its activation energies of the complexeswith higher conductivities are smaller than those with lower conductivities.Positive thermoeJectric power is observed in these complexes, which indicatesa hole conduction in these materials. The absorption spectra of thin films ofthese complexes are also strongly influenced by halogen.
