The correspondence of optical anisotropy to magnetic anisotropy was investi-gated in iron films evaporated at oblique incidence. Diclu'oism was found irrespec-tively of the incidence angle and the film thickness, and its magnitude can beexpressed as a linear function of the magnitude of the magnetic anisotropy.Birefringence was observed only in films evaporated at high incidence angles,and it is unlikely to correlate with the magnetic anisotropy.
