The properties of an electron??ho]e system in a strong magnetic field is studied.Especially the effect of the excitonic correlation on the gas-liquid type phasetra?asition is studied by a nnean field theory. It is shown that the effective mass,number of carricrs and Landau quantuna number of the relevant Landau sub-bands have characteristic effects. It is suggested that a semimetal bismuth in amagnetic field of about 100 k0<: shows various types of phase transitions at lowtemperatures (7'<0. I K).
