Fluctuation Effect of the Gas-Liquid Type Transition of Semimetals on Giant Quantum Attenuation

An expression for the coefficient of giant quantum attenuation of sound isobtained, which includes the effects of both tlne fluctuation of the gas-liquidtransition and the impurity scattering. The observed anc>malous temperaturedependence of the peak value of attenuation of sound is explained by the presenttheory as the effect of the fluctuation of the gas-liquid type transition, the criticaltemperature of which is calculated to be arouttd 0.2 K. Other aspects of theexperiment arc also compared with the present theory. The behavior of the systembelow the critical temperature is discussed.
