The differential cross sectiomts for the "Cod, p)"C reactiott at a deuteron energyof 9.0 MeV have been measured with paying special attentiorr to the transitions tothe 5/2" state at 6.864 MeV and the 3/2" state at 7.677 MeV. The experimentalresults were compared with the second-order DWBA calculations that involve theinelastic excitatiort of "C core using coupled channel form factors. The theoreticalealctzlations reproduce the experimental data wccll. It has been shown that thetwo-step processes arc domirxant in the "Cod, p)"C reac'tion leading to thesestates that have large fractions of the parentage of the ax<cited state of targetnucleus.
