Magnetic Properties of Fe-Ni Invar Alloy Films

The composition-graded Tnvar alloy films w'ith the composition ranging frompure iron to 50%NiFe were prepared. Both the magnetic properties and theelectrical resistivit>' were investisated. We found that r-rhase could be obtainedin 20 ZNiFe film at room tenor>erature after a r>rorer thermal treatntent and alsofound that the finite maaetization at >'-rhase could be obtained in the composi.tion ranging from 20 %NiFe to 30 'l4NiFe as well as in the case of the fine particles. The tenaperature dependence of the saturation magnetization in those filmsshowed a flatter variation than that obtained from the Brillouin function. It wasconcluded that this result mainl>' oriminated not from the sradient of the composi-tion but from the interaction between the substrate and the film.
