Superconductivity from an Insulator

We consider a new pairing Hamiltonian in which a filled valence band is separatedfrom an empty conduction band by an energy gap. In the normal state, the system isinsulating, but when a large enough attractive interaction acts between states in thetwo bands, it goes into a superconducting phase at T. of the order of the energy gap.Although we obtain the Meissner effect and infinite dc-conductivity similar to that inthe BCS superconductors, there are many unusual properties due to an unconventional gap equation.
