rho pressure-induced sr>in state transitions in Fe(II) comr>ounds are studiedon the basis of the liuand field theorv b>z usinm the model in which trio courlinnsof Fe ton with a molecular distortion and a lattice strain are taken i:mto account. The calculated pressure dependences of the low-spin content re?produce theessential features of the observed several types of transitions: The continuoushigh-spin (HS)elow-spin (LS) transition with increasing pressure arises from asmooth increasing of the lattice strain with or without a slight change of themolecular distortion. The discontinuous JIS-+LS transition is due to an abruptdecreasing of the molecular distortion. The LS-+IIS transition otxurs in thecase where the lattice strain couples dominantly with Fe ion at lower pressurebut the intramolecular coupling overwhelms the strain coupling at higher pres-sure through an increase of the former induced by pressure.
