The deformation of an elastic particle suspended in an arbitrary unboundedflow field is investiuated theoretically'. It is assumed that the r>article is a homo-geneous, isotropic elastic body obeying Hooke's law and the underformed particleis spherical in shape. It is further assumed that the motion of fluid obeys theStokes ectuation. On the assumrtion that the deformation from a srherical shapeis verv small the ecmuation of the surface of the deformed particle is obtained. Asexamr>les, simr>le shear flow, r>lane h>'r>erbolic flow and Poiseuille flow are con=sidered.
