It is shown that there exist empirical relations between the elastic modulusC44 of the Nail tvr>e alkali halides and the Sziueti charse. Bx reason of theseemr>irical relations it is concluded that the elastic modulus C++ relates to covalencyon the hypothesis that the Szigeti charge represents substantially the static charge(J. Phys. Soc. Jpn. 49 (1980) 213, 218).
