The probability of the diffusing away of vacancies from the faulted loop has been calculated using the diffusion equation of vacancies under the effects of the permanent sinks and it has been clarified that the probability increases with decreasing the density of jogs on faulted loops and the distance from the faulted loop to the grain boundary, and it decreases with decreasing the void density. The annihilation processes of faulted loops in quenched aluminum have been experimentally studied, and it has been shown that the experimental results can be easily explained from the idea that the shrinkage speed of the faulted loop is proportional to the product of the emission rate and the diffusing away probability of vacancies from the faulted loop. The value of the stacking fault energy is estimated to be 130±30 erg/cm^2 from the shrinkage speed of the faulted loop in a thin foil.
