Differential Cross Section for Rotational Transition in Low-Energy HD-He Collisions

By using the close-coupling method, differential cross sections are calculated for the elastic scattering and the rotational excitation (0→1) in the He-HD collision, The calculation is carried out for relative kinetic energies of 0.014, 0.02, and 0.04eV. The cross section for the rotational excitation shows a gradual parking in the backward direction. This and other qualitative features of the angular dependence of the cross sections are discussed in terms of the interaction potential used.
