Rotational Transition in an Asymmetric-Top Molecule by Electron Collision: Applications to H_2O and H_2CO

A cross section formula is obtained for the electron-impact rotational transition in an asymmetric-top molecule, with use of the Born approximation. Selection rules are derived on the basis of the symmetry properties of the molecular rotational wave function. The result is applied to the electron-H_2O and -H_2CO collisions. Electron-molecular multiple interactions are taken to be considered and rotational cross sections are calculated for the transitions among some low-lying states.
