Proximity Effect in NbC_<0.3>N_<0.7>/Au Bilayers Observed by Low-Temperature Scanning Tunneling Microscopy

The proximity effect in the Au layer of NbC_<0.3>N_<0.7>/Au bilayer was studied by low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy (LT-STM/S). The conductance spectra were obtained for various Au thickness. The theoretical conductance spectra were calculated on the basis of a quasi-classical theory and by introducing a probability distribution of tunneling in momentum-space. Good agreements between the theoretical and experimental conductance spectra are obtained by taking the effective STM tip radius as a fitting parameter. Low energy excitations below gap voltage observed in the conductance spectra are explained by the total reflections at the NbC_<0.3>N_<0.7>/Au interfaces.
