Static uaaagt?etic strsceptibility of the taew B12 icosahedral higher boride coznpound TbB5g wasrneastrred and a large change in behavior arottr'xd 17 K was o bserxzed, indicating the existence of ;'tnantiferrornagraetic-Iilce transition. At Iaigh fields a uauetataaagnetic tratasition was observed to occtrrand tl?e magnetic phase diagrarn was deterunined. Tlais is the first report of a rnagnetic transition1.ceing observed ira the hig1'?er boride counpotrnds. An interestirng featttre of this bel?avior is thatit is in contrast to the typical Ctmrie-Weiss behavior of tlae more terloitnrn rich couaapoutad TbBz5and also the more baron rich cotnpotrnd T bB(55 wlaich xvere alsc>syntlaesized and naeasvrred in tlaisword<. Tlais is considered to be an aspect of the ttniqtze structure of tJte REB5g (RB-::rare-earth)conapounds recently discovered.
