Anomalous Transmission of X-Rays through Germanium Single Crystals Containing Dislocations and Impurities

The anomalous transmission of X-rays has been studied on non and γ-irradiated germanium single crystals with antimony and arsenic concentrations from 10^<13> to 10^<19>/cm^3 and with dislocation densities from < 10^2 to 2× 10^5/cm^2. The ratios of the anomalous absorption coefficient to the mean absorption coefficient, μ'/μ, were determined before and after irradiations. The variations, Δ(μ'/μ), for antimony doped specimens increase appreciably with impurity concentration, while for arsenic negligibly. The variations for arsenic doped ones would be the same as for an antimony' doped one with sufficiently low concentration. These results are explained in terms of the differences in atomic radii. The imaginary parts of the structure factors before and after irradiations were also determined from the observed values of μ'/μ.
