Examining some equations presented by several authors for describing the distancedispersal rate relationship of insects and plant diseases, the present authors concluded that the following equations are most appropriate to represent the distance-dispersal rate relationships : [numerical formula] Here, y means number of individuals recaptured per sample unit taken from a point with distance r from the release point, S means πr^2 and A, B and B' are constants. It was demonstrated that, the linear relationship between log y and S (or r^2) reflects the result of random dispersal which was well described by the bivariate normal distribution. These simple equations are, therefore, useful to judge whether the dispersal of an insect population in question occurred at random.
