Spodoptera litura F. was reared under constant and alternating temperature conditions. From the results of rearings on beet leaves under constant temperatures, the threshold temperatures for the development of the egg, larva, prepupa, and pupa were estimated to be 10.1°, 10.6°, 12.0°, and 9.0℃, respectively. The threshold temperature and the thermal constant for development from the egg to the adult form were also estimated to be 10.3℃ and 526.3 day-degrees. It was considered that the development of the larvae and the pupae tended to be accelerated under alternating temperatures as compared with that under constant temperatures.
