Two kinds of generalized separable expansion methods for the two-body transition matrix are proposed. In order to test the accuracy and usefulness of these methods, the convergence properties with respect to the numbers of ranks of the on-shell and the off-shell transition matrices are investigated for the Reid soft core potential and the Yukawa potential. The results are compared with the calculations with the unitary pole approximation (UPA) of Tabakin, Yamaguchi, Harms-Laroze and Schaposnikde Vega. We find that our model is superior to the UPA model in the convergence with respect to the numbers of ranks and in agreement with experiments.
