Simulation model of voltage holding ratio in liquid crystal cells was proposed for investigating influences of ionic impurities on the device performance. Active matrix addressed liquid crystal displays are composed of insulator materials between two electrodes, and are driven by pulse voltage application. In this model the charge density accumulated on the electrode was assumed to be constant in open-circuited state. Voltage decay with this model is described as the change of the internal electric field induced by ions polarization, and the increase of the capacitance caused by the LC reorientation. Calculated results with this model qualitatively reproduced measured voltage decays.
