The Bethe-Salpeter equation for bound states formed by two scalar particles with unequal masses is investigated in the massive scalar particle exchange ladder model. The eigenvalue problem for the coupling constant is analyzed numerically. It is found that there exists a strong indication that complex eigenvalues appear in the first and second excited states for the bound state mass squared around the pseudothreshold.
