We study the random spin-one Ising model on a Cayley tree with coordination z where the coupling constants are Gaussian random variables. In the limit z→∞ we show rigorously that an iteration scheme is obtained which relates mean magnetizations and occupation numbers and their mean squares for successive shells of the lattice. The fixed points of the iteration scheme give local properties of the model and are in complete agreement with equations obtained previously using a pair approximation.
